This paper explores under what conditions the current biotechnological revolution in agriculture is helpful for reducing poverty in developing countries. The paper examines the income of rural consumers, poverty and the relation to agriculture. The condition of agriculture-dependent income and possible changes through scientific advances offered by biotechnology are addressed.
