This press release announces on September 26, 1977, that in a wide-ranging survey of the state of the developing world Mr. Robert S. McNamara, President of the World Bank, noted the continued economic progress of the middle-income countries, but called for special efforts to relieve the poverty and end the stagnation of the poorest countries where about one billion people live.
