The additional credit, which will finance construction of the Day-Ninh Co interconnecting canal, shiplock, road and bridge ("the DNC canal") is expected to achieve more development outcomes. It is expected to facilitate a more efficient primary transport corridor in the Red River Delta region and connect it with maritime trade and vessels. The additional credit was approved by the Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank on May 5, 2017; became effective on October 30, 2017; and has a current closing date of December 31, 2019. However, implementation progress has been delayed since credit approval, pending funding allocation under Vietnam's public expenditure planning process. 12/13/2018 Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Northern Delta Transport Development Project (P095129) Significant preparatory work on procurement has taken place, so that the project could be expedited when counterpart funds are allocated. The appropriate environmental, social, health and safety (ESHS) safeguards have also been incorporated into the draft procurement documents. Procurement, technical and financial management reviews have also been conducted. All project implementing agencies, working closely with the World Bank, remain strongly committed to minimizing further delays going forward and to complete construction works in accordance with the project's ESHS safeguards.
