However at this stage works are ongoing in earnest on all elements of the project. On June 22, 2012 there was a fatal accident at the site of one of the stations - 2 workers were killed when the boom of a crane fell on them. An ongoing criminal investigation is responsible for apportioning responsibility for the accident. However, Metro has strengthened measures to ensure a safe working environment (for instance by conducting a review of the certificates of operational readiness of all major equipment used on the site; this is traditionally the contractors responsibility). The Bank team is awaiting the results of the investigation and also strengthening its supervision of related safety related issues. Page 1 of 4 The World Bank Report No: ISR13175 Additionally, there remains a need to keep a close eye on all elements of project implementation, particularly elements not financed by the Bank, to ensure that delays are minimized and the project progresses in a manner consistent with all applicable laws and agreements embedded in the Bank loan.
