For Component 1 on Sanitation facilities construction, all 50 planned community sanitation blocks for large compounds and 250 shared latrines for smaller compounds have been completed and handed over to users. An extra 150 shared latrines were built with the project savings and are in the process of being handed over to the users. For Component 2 on Development of desludging services, Six of the eight fecal sludge management micro-enterprises established under the project have survived and can now be classified as viable businesses. The service is well accepted by users. The Maputo Municipal Council is now rolling out the service in other areas, with support from other development partners. For Component 3 on Sanitation and hygiene promotion and monitoring, Baseline and endline surveys were completed. Community leader were trained on sanitation monitoring and two district wide monitoring and sanitation promotion campaigns were completed by the community leaders. Hence norm for usage and maintenance of the toilets were developed through a participatory process.
