The amount of methane that would be avoided from the composting activities was to be the subject of the carbon finance transaction under the World Bank managed Carbon Finance for Europe trust fund as the buyer of the Certified Emission Reductions or CERs, under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) scheme. The revised Project Design Document (PDD) was finalized and ready to be submitted for registration via the Designated Operational Entity (DOE) to the UNFCCC secretariat. However, the validation has been put on hold due to the unsettled composting method to be applied at the project site. Due to the fact that construction of the composting facilities has not progressed since 2011, no Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) are expected by the end of the project in December 2013.
