To date under the Project, 2,824 schools directly affected by the 2010 earthquake received compensation grants to cover teacher salaries in 2010-2011, allowing them to reopen; and about 83,000 students in disadvantaged areas benefited from primary enrollment tuition subsidies under the tuition waiver program during the 2011-2012 school year. These activities enabled the enrollment of students in the targeted areas in primary education. The Project also financed the school nutrition and health program for about 62,000 students in disadvantaged areas (17,000 students during the 2010- 2011 school year and 45,000 in 2011-2012), contributing to attracting children to school with meals and supporting their nutrition and readiness to learn. Two remaining activities are still in progress: The implementation of an Early Childhood Development (ECD) action plan, and the first phase of a national curriculum reform. With respect to the ECD action plan, a National ECD Policy has been developed and approved by the MENFP’s ECD unit. With respect to the curriculum reform, training for the MENFP technical task force in charge of monitoring the curriculum reform process was completed, and the MENFP established in December 2014 a National Commission for Curricular Reform to serve as a steering committee for the process.
