The SWEDD participating countries are currently working on monitoring beneficiaries’ satisfaction with the women and girls empowerment interventions and results are expected to be observed as implementation progresses beyond 2019. A joint guidelines on the purchase of health commodities has been adopted by all the ECOWAS countries, and the regional framework for purchasing health commodities is expected by the end of FY2020. An additional financing in the amount of US$9 million equivalent is currently being processed for Chad to facilitate the implementation of existing activities. In addition to monitoring implementation progress and results, a key objective for the SWEDD countries in 2020 is to expand the interventions under the SWEDD project. As a result, a second phase SWEDD project, which covers six countries including two new countries — Cameroon and Guinea, is under preparation to scale up the project interventions, with a focus on areas with high fertility rates and to expand the scope of regional technical support provided to SWEDD countries.
