The project was signed by the Government on September 21, 2018. The project is anchored within the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). A Project Preparation Advance (PPA) of US$1.7 million was executed by an existing Project Implementation Unit (PIU) within the Ministry of Finance called the CFEF. The project complied with the two effectiveness conditions (recruitment and operationalization of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) and promulgation of the project by the President) and became effective on November 20, 2019. It is expected to be launched officially in February 2020. 12/26/2019 Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report DRC- SME Development and Growth Project (P160806) The PIU is well-equipped and operational, with local points hired and settled in the three target provinces outside of Kinshasa, such as Goma, Lubumbashi and Matadi. On the technical side, 80 percent of activities (Business competition for established firms and young entrepreneurs, SME hubs design and support to women micro-entrepreneurs) are in the final stages of procurement and expected to be launched by early February 2020.
