Staff of the Integrated Centers explained that within the first months of the opening of the Integrated Centers, most of the survivors who sought services were survivors of Sexual Violence and therefore almost all received medical assistance in addition to legal and psychological assistance. Subsequently, the project sensitized 3 NGOs, medical staff, Family and Community Development Centers and communities on the different types of violence admissible to the Integrated Center, which also included survivors of economic and psychological Comments: violence. As compared to survivors of sexual violence, these survivors are managed almost exclusively by the psychologist (from time to time they receive advice from the OPJs who manage family mediations and arrangements). Since the third quarter of 2018, of the 529 cases of survivors admitted in the 3 Integrated Centers, only 230 cases (43.47%) were cases of sexual violence, the rest being survivors of economic violence and/or psychological violence. This change in case mix explains why a lower percentage of cases received two multidisciplinary services in the current reporting period. Health facilities, and the system more generally, struggled to expand access to specialized services when there were many basic Comments: challenges in terms of service delivery (availability of staff, basic medication) that posed a problem. The team originally underestimated the barriers to accessing services for women in DRC. The team has since found that this is a common challenge in projects that focus extensively on response without significant focus on prevention. In these circumstances, services Comments: may be available, but survivors do not use them. The team has some evidence that this is the case for the DRC portion of the project.
