The Youth Job Corps (YJC), intended to generate temporary employment, continues to pick up momentum and the number of job placements is expected increase significantly with the introduction of the larger works contracts that are being procured through National Competitive Bidding. On-the-job training (OJT) activities aimed at longer-term and more intensive skills development and employability are delayed, but expected to begin shortly. The YJC has screened about 1,370 youth applicants from communities in and around the National Capital District (NCD). Of the 640 youth who entered the program, more than 400 have now completed the five-day Basic Life Skills Training, and 300 have been placed in jobs through the YJC’s labor-intensive public works program, which focuses on community enhancement work such as waste collection, grass cutting, drain cleaning and excavation.
