KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA INTEGRATED TOURISM DEVELOPMENT PROJECT(KITE) has been approved on June 27, 2019 and is expected to be signed and effective by 31-October-2109.The project development objective(PDO) is: to improve tourism-enabling infrastructure, tourism assets, and strengthen destination management for sustainable tourism development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This objective will be achieved through implementation of the four project components: i) sector enablement and tourism entrepreneurship; ii) infrastructure planning and development; iii) project management and capacity building, and iv) contingency emergency response component. Key expected project results are: i) improved planning and management of tourist destinations (numbers); ii) new private investments mobilized (measured in US$ and PKR); iii). Individuals benefitting from improved infrastructure and training (numbers); and, Increased tourist spending in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (measured in US$ and PKR). 2. The preparatory activities for the project has already been started. The Project Management Units (PMUs) at Department of Civil Work and Communications (C&W) and Department of Tourism (DoT)have been established and introduced. The recruitment of key external project staffs such as Procurement Specialist, Social and Environmental Specialist and others at DoT and C&W is in progress. The Procurement Plan for the first year of implementation of DoT was prepared and approved, while the Procurement Plan for the first year activities of C&W under preparation and is going to be submitted to the World Bank.
