The first program was implemented between 2008 and 2010, and targeted women in 8 mining and petroleum communities, providing a variety of training materials, facilities and opportunities. This second program builds on the moment of the first program, expanding coverage to 15 communities across mining and petroleum communities across PNG. The program will include four major components, including business development, advocacy and awareness raising on gender-based violence, Public Disclosure Copy a small-scale mining and gender assessment, and an adolescent girls empowerment program. The program will run for four years from signing of the Grant Agreement - this agreement was signed in July 2013, and the program will close in July 2017. The implementing partners are currently staffing up to begin implementation and an initial launch event will be held in October, 2013, in Port Moresby.
