The project development objective is to improve basic education service delivery and retention in targeted schools. This is the fifth ISR since the Project became effective. This ISR includes findings from the fourth implementation support mission carried out in June 2018. The ratings for progress towards achievement of the project development objective (PDO) and overall implementation progress (IP) are satisfactory as the implementation continues to progress satisfactorily as planned. The project has disbursed 41.2 percent of the total credit amount (US$10.3 million of a total credit of US$25 million). Progress has been observed under the Project’s three components: (i) junior secondary school teacher trainings have started in 2017 and are still ongoing during school holidays; primary school teacher training will happen during the last quarter of December; (ii) schools have started to submit theirs school improvement plans that incorporate school report cards. Fourteen school improvement plans have been approved; (iii) project management is satisfactory and activities under component 3 are on track. Several studies have been carried out or at least have started. Close monitoring at school level is needed to assure smooth project implementation.
