Procurement actions are nearing completion (two of the larger contracts awarded, three more contracts are in evaluation stage), and the only major remaining contract (multispecies hatchery) is expected to be advertised in April/May 2019. Following award of contracts, expenditure in the project has also picked up. Substantial training and capacity building initiatives on procurement and contract management were completed. There has also been considerable progress on studies and assessments related to marine fisheries. It will be important to maintain the momentum of the recent months to recover the past delay and complete the project in time. Crucial actions in the next six months will be to: (a) start the first set of 5 to 20 pilot farms of grouper mariculture using fish seed from the Maniyafushi Research and Development Facility, (b) close attention and appropriate contract management of the civil works at Maniyafushi and Ga Matu, (c) award of the 4/18/2019 Page 1 of 8 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Sustainable Fisheries Resources Development Project (Fourth South West Indian Ocean Fisheries Governance and Shared Grow design, build and operation contract for the multispecies hatchery, (d) oversight of the implementation of the Electronic Observer and vessel Locating Devices in the fishing vessels, (e) operationalization of the quarantine facility at Hulumale.
