Remarkable results have been achieved with implementation of the emergency livelihood interventions to address the most urgent needs of the communities. Some 47,330 beneficiaries received start up packages of staple seeds, backyard poultry and small ruminants to resume agricultural production. This is 35 percent higher than the originally estimated number of beneficiaries. Needs Assessment survey complete and resulted in identification of priority interventions and beneficiaries for the project support. Rehabilitation of community water infrastructure for production and consumption is advancing. Some 60 subprojects have already been identified with estimated number of 17,800 beneficiary households. Infrastructure rehabilitation works are expected to scale up in the following months. These activities are implemented as labor-intensive subprojects either through community contracting or cash for works mechanisms to provide communities with additional income support. The priority now is the timely implementation of the activities aimed at improving livestock production and veterinary services and enhancing key agricultural value chains to improve food security, livelihood and nutrition. Progress with supporting the selected value chains so far includes identification of honey producers and dairy farmers for the project support, completion of procurement of honey production kits and dairy equipment, and identification of the first horticulture subprojects. Preparatory activities for the establishment of Farmer Field Schools are also ongoing.
