Has the Project Development Objective been changed since Board Approval of the Project Objective? Moreover, four subprojects of institutional strengthening of IPTC representative organizations were approved in early 2018. It has also implemented training in preparation of subprojects, is implementing the Capacity Building Plan agreed with the National Steering Committee and facilitated the exchange of experiences both among communities as well as with other FIP pilot countries (Mozambique and Indonesia). 12/18/2019 Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report BR DGM for Indigenous People and Traditional Communities (P143492) There have been two widely published calls for Expressions of Interest (EoI), to reach the target communities in the Cerrado region (EoIs are preliminary proposals for community subprojects). The first call was published in February 2016, and the second in August 2017. There were to be three such calls, but the third call was dropped due to the large number of subprojects already selected after the first two calls (60). Subprojects vary widely by thematic lines. The most demanded type of subproject is related with the processing of fruits, nuts and non-timber forest products of the Cerrado. They are expected to add value to sustainable productive activities and generate higher incomes to local communities. The second most demanded types of subproject are the restoration of the vegetative cover, springs and water courses in degraded areas. Most subprojects cover multiple thematic lines. They principally add together activities to: secure or retrieve traditional knowledge and cultural features; train community members in matters of ecology, sustainable resource management, production and marketing, REDD+ and land rights; and, give incentives to young people to stay within or return to their communities. The NEA has been working closely with the subproject’ coordinators to accelerate implementation. Field visits to local markets have been done to enable the procurement processes. The beneficiaries need ‘face to face’ technical assistance to improve implementation on the ground. The Monitoring and Evaluation module of the subprojects’ system (SIGCAA) is fully operational. Hands-on trainings have been organized for all subproject coordinators to assist them in accessing this system and provide inputs on subprojects’ implementation. The system covers all aspects of the subprojects (indicators, activities, procurement processes, financial management and progress reports).
