Gas Turbine of the project has now been supplying 260 MW of power to the grid continuously since last September 23. In line with the physical progress at site, the project has disbursed well and safeguard compliance at site has also improved. Dismantling of the existing boiler is one key activity which has also started. Bank’s safeguard team had visited Ghorashal project site and met with the contractor to ensure that the dismantling works follow the prescribed method in the EIA to ensure highest safety. However, project’s combined cycle commissioning will be dependent on PGCB's original work of installation of the 230kV GIS substation and transmission line (originally planned to be financed by the Islamic Development Bank and now by GOB's own source) next year. However, implementation progress of Ghorashal power station as SBU, as promised by BPDB, has been slow. BPDB management needs to focus to help build strong institutional capacity at Ghorashal. An Influx Management Plan (IMP) for the project has been developed. A training on the plan has been organized involving the contractors, project officials and other relevant stakeholders. A grievance redress committee formed as per recommendations of the ESIA report is conducting meetings on a regular interval. Two complain boxes have been set up - one at the Project office and the other at the construction site of the project. The boxes are clearly marked in Bengali and English languages. The committee has also arranged a Register Book in order to document the complains received, if any.
