Part 1 of the project (compensation grants to schools to cover teacher salaries) is almost completed and two independent control agencies are finalizing the verification of the participating schools. This operation took longer than initially planned due to difficulties in identifying eligible schools in the absence of updated lists of schools in Haiti; the final number of participating school is much lower than initially anticipated. The school health and nutrition program for the year 2010-2011 is fully implemented although one of three firms, recruited as service providers, will continue providing services to schools until the end of June in order to make up for service delays related to interruptions during the election period. Programming of activities under Part 2 of the project (Early Childhood Development and curriculum development) is completed but their implementation, in close collaboration with UNICEF and UNESCO, is pending approval by the Minister of Education, who has not yet been appointed.
