Works on the improvement of a section of James Gichuru road junction to Rironi road (Zambezi-Rironi, which largely rural) has commenced upon the clearance and near completion of the implementation of the associated RAP. 2 . The construction of Meru bypasses is at 85 percent complete with completion date expected by April 2018. 3 . Bids for the Kisumu Northern bypass will be invited within the next one month. 4 . NaMATA legally established and in the process of being operationalized, though the process has been slowed down due the prevailing political challenges in the country. 5 . The designs of an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) for Nairobi including installation of a traffic signaling system and construction of traffic control center is advanced and expected to be completed by February 2018, thereafter invitation of bids will be issued. 6 . A consultant to develop a commuter rail masterplan for Nairobi has been engaged and commenced work. 7 . Bids for the procurement of a rail track recording car, critical for assessing maintenance requirement of the rail track have been received and evaluation is underway.
