The survey was administered in all six Western Balkan countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Kosovo. The survey – which is a repeater of the 2011 Regional Roma Survey- examines living conditions and key human development outcomes within Roma households and non-Roma living in close vicinity. The sample size consists of around 750 Roma and 350 non-Roma households in each country. The sample was purposefully not representative of all Roma in these countries, but rather focused on those communities where the Roma population’s share equals or is higher than the national share of Roma population, the “marginalized Roma”. The “non-Roma” refer to non-Roma population living in close vicinity to the marginalized Roma, and are not representative of the total population in the country. The estimates using the Regional Roma Survey instrument allow for comparison of marginalized Roma with non-Roma living in close vicinity, as well as across countries in the study.
