The main achievements include: - In 2012, the Secretariat of Education (SEE) completed rehabilitation works for 100% of Early Childhood Education (ECE) centers with emergency needs and 72.73% of the ECE centers with priority needs (a taxonomy of emergency, priority, and other rehabilitation needs for ECE centers were developed by the Municipality during the Project preparation). Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Report No: ISR9912 This contributed to improving ECE environment and expanding the provision of ECE by creating new capacity in existing ECE facilities. The SEE provided in-service training to 628 ECE professionals and distributed package of materials to some ECE centers. This contributed to improving the quality of services provided in ECE centers. - In 2012, the SEE enrolled 1,697 students grades 1 to 5 in accelerated learning programs (none were enrolled in 2011). 90% of the students enrolled successfully completed the program (based on passing test). A few hundreds of students also benefited from the extended school-day program focusing on Math and Portuguese. Public Disclosure Copy - In 2012, the SEE trained 95.36% of teachers, directors and pedagogical coordinators of the Municipal education system. 70 municipal schools benefited from a systematic follow-up focused on improved school management from the Core Regional Follow-up team of the SEE Implementation of Component 2 (strengthen institutions for more efficient and effective public management) has not yet started.
