During the period under review, there was organized the annual joint planning meeting. During this meeting, a consensual chronogram of implementation of synchronized campaigns of Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and Mass Drug Treatment (TDM) against NTDs for the year 2018 was developed and adopted. Two cross-border meetings were organized for technical support for the organization of mass drug campaigns as well as supervision and evaluation of the project. Discussions were also held during the cross-border meetings about the synchronized implementation of national plans for biomedical waste management in the project beneficiary countries. 12/10/2018 Page 1 of 7 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Sahel Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (P149526) Countries ordered and have received the medicines for SMC and WAHO followed up with the supply of drugs to the projects by CAMEG. For capacity building of cross-border committees, an organization, CREDES, was contracted to support to the coordination and functionality of cross- border committees. Meetings to ensure that data on malaria and NTDs are available at the regional DHIS2 platform were organized. This activity will allow interoperability between national platforms (national DHIS2) and the regional platform (DHIS2-OOAS) for the transmission of routine data and campaigns on malaria and NTDs. Countries organized the SMC campaign and many children were treated. For example, almost 1,203,792 children from 3 to 59 months will receive chemoprevention in Mali. The countries also have organized mass drug administration for the neglected tropical diseases. There was synchronization of the campaigns in the three countries. One hydrocele surgical camp was organized in the health district of Say in Niger. During this camp, 237 surgical procedures were conducted that included 142 are hydroceles, 95 hernias and the rest were other tumors associated with hydroceles. In addition, there was capacity building for three (3) health district medical doctors (Guidan Roumdji, Illéla and Tera) on new techniques for the management of hydrocele. Plans are underway to organize similar camps in Mali and Burkina Faso.
