Has the Project Development Objective been changed since Board Approval of the Project Objective? The project became effective in August 2014.The portfolio of subproject investments to be carried out under Components 2 and 3 was approved by the Bank only in December 2015 after a period during which FISE had focused its efforts to close the predecessor project (PRASNICA). The process of preparing the designs for the portfolio of subprojects has taken longer than expected. Finalizing designs, procurement and implementation started to pick up after Mid-Term-Review (January 2017), and has been pushed continuously during the last twelve months. The 1/7/2019 Page 1 of 8 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report NI Sustainable Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Project (P147006) Project continues to demonstrate significant progress and outcomes in the implementation of the Component 1, such as (i) the development and delivery of training workshops (AVAR) for 148 municipalities; (ii) the implementation of a strategy for strengthening and improving sustainability of Water and Sanitation Municipal Units (UMAS) and Communities (CAPS); (iii) the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Information System (SIASAR) update to a 100 percent (152 municipalities); and (iv) tailor-made WSS training for 41 technical FISE staff. Under Component 2, 70 subprojects remain active in the project portfolio: 20 subprojects have been completed, 42 subprojects are under implementation and 8 subprojects are in the process of contracting of works. With the current progress, it is expected that all subprojects will be finalized by July 2019. The implementation of innovative subprojects from Component 3 (improved sanitation solutions, on-site sludge management, chlorine supply chain in rural areas and climate change vulnerability) is moving forward as planned. An action plan on the project implementation timeline was agreed with FISE for close monitoring and a restructuring of the project has been effective since May 2018 to streamline and accelerate project execution. It is crucial that FISE continues its implementation effort to speed up the implementation pace and ensure that all project activities can be carried out until closing date.
