Due to fiscal austerity and as a result a substantial reduction of budget allocation for the project in 2013 it would have been impossible to complete all the envisaged activities and achieve the PDO and GEO by its original closing date, December 31, 2013. The Government of Romania's strong commitment to implement and complete the remaining investments and specific activities related to the nutrient management demonstration practices is primarily based on the fact that this project represents the only source for the investment carried out by Romania with regards to the fulfillment of its obligations related to the implementation of the EU Nitrates Directive. The extension of the project's closing date is based on a revised implementation plan for 2013-2015 with specific deadlines for contracting and completion of each investment and activity.
