This ISR is based on a technical mission carried out on May 29-30, 2014, with the participation of the Project Implementation Unit, on a desk review of Project Documents, and on a -Q Technical Report sent to the Bank on August 2014. Overall status of the Project components are as follows: Page 1 of 6 @ The World Bank Report No: ISR16266 Component 1: On-Farm Biodiversity Mainstreaming. The objective of this component is to rationalize land conversion processes by promoting the adoption of biodiversity conservation practices in the main productive systems of the grasslands. Currently, there are 19 demonstration units under implementation (158% of the target indicator). These demonstration units are established on properties which have volunteered to conduct demonstration practices and are willing to share their experience with neighbors and other landowners under the extension activities of EMATER/RS. There are 451 subprojects under implementation (90.2% of the target indicator). The EMATER/RS has already committed more counterpart funds than originally planned. 0 Component 2: Biodiversity Management. The objective of this component is to strengthen the capacity of the following State institutions which are responsible for biodiversity U) conservation to promote and responsible use of the biodiversity in the grasslands (including threatened species and protected areas): Secretariat of the Environment (SEMA); State 0 -6 Foundation for Environmental Protection (FEPAM), Zoo-Botanical Foundation (FZB), and Technical Assistance and Rural Development Enterprise (EMATER/RS). The process to U hire consultancies to elaborate the 2 rapid ecological assessments are being finalized and should start soon; the other 2 are expected to start at the beginning of January; other consultancies to strengthen the SEMA's capacity and knowledge of the state's biodiversity and its potential for ecological corridors and other actions to preserve biodiversity have been hired and are under implementation. Ten Protected Areas are enhancing their biodiversity protection through activities under this component. Component 3: Project Management. The objective of this component is to provide support, including technical assistance and equipment, for coordination, management and monitoring activities under the Project. Educational materials and a video have been produced and disseminated. Four workshops were held to discuss project activities and to engage local stakeholders. Currently the Project has reached a good implementation pace, with the necessary staff under SEMA working in the Project. Most of these staff have been trained by the Bank and have been executing Project activities successfully. Overall implementation has progressed, although some delays in the beginning of implementation will require an extension of Closing Date of the Project. A formal request form the State has been received and the team is waiting for the letter of approval from the Brazilian Overseas Finance Commission's (COFIEX) to proceed with the Restructuring.
