Initial activities including survey, design and procurement are progressing smoothly on both secondary and tertiary roads and bridges. As of April 30th, 2014, nearly 95% of the survey and design work have been completed and procurement of civil work contracts are ongoing with 470 km of secondary and 820 km of tertiary road have been awarded and construction has already started. Also, construction of 80 km of secondary and 368 km of tertiary roads have been completed and opened to traffic. Meanwhile, construction of 428 linear meter of secondary and 320 linear meter of tertiary bridges have been completed and opened to traffic. In the meantime, data analysis of the data collected for project indicators during the baseline survey, is ongoing and the initial report of the baseline survey has been circulated for Page 1 of 5 The World Bank Report No: ISR15740 comments. The capacity building activities is progressing well and major activities including setting up a GIS based rural road networking have already been started. A request for additional resources have been submitted to the WB office in March 2014 from the Ministry of Finance to cover the cost overrun of the secondary roads and scale up the good performing components of the project; the detailed breakdown of the additional fund has been discussed during the mission and the team will prepare for next step once the election process is over and new government is in place.
