This is due not only to the yearly SAWAP Conferences that have been held since 2014 (the last one in Accra, Ghana in May 2017), but also to the efforts of the BRICKS agencies in organizing thematic workshops on M&E, GIS, Best Practices, and Communication throughout the years, tailored to the needs of the different specialists in the country project teams. BRICKS Agencies have also been providing bi-lateral services to all 12 country project 6/29/2019 Page 1 of 26 Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Building Resilience through Innovation, Communication & Knowledge Svcs (P130888) teams. Now at the cusp of project closure (June 30 2019), the project has delivered on almost all of the activities, with most indicators having achieved their targets. There is now a need to ensure that all BRICKS products and services remain sustainable. SAWAP Web Portal. The portal, launched in Feb 2016, has inter alia been used to facilitate virtual exchanges between the CILSS and the country teams on selected best SLM practices. Over the last year, with no resources left under the project, CILSS has not been able to maintain substantial exchanges. To keep the SAWAP web portal functional, CILSS has held early discussions with USAID about bringing together the different websites that it manages, using cloud technology. If this is confirmed, the content of the portal would migrate to this single knowledge website. SAWAP Geospatial portal and GIS tool. Since Nov 2016, OSS has provided training support to the SAWAP project teams on the geoportal (sawap.net) over time. GIS tools with additional in-country functionalities have been developed for SAWAP projects in Ethiopia, Sudan, Chad, Senegal, Niger, Ghana and Nigeria, where each project team has been trained. OSS has also in the past year, benefitted from working closely with the Servir West Africa project implemented by NASA, USGS and USAID, which has fed into the SAWAP geoportal. A regional SAWAP Atlas on land cover/use has been published together with an interactive e-book. OSS plans to maintain the geoportal and other GIS tools developed under BRICKS after project closure. Documenting and sharing best practices (BP) on sustainable land management (SLM) to promote their adoption at scale: About 350 BPs have been described in draft form. From this, 20 have been disseminated through a series of brochures since mid 2017 and, in 2018, three have been promoted under the web based "thematic weeks". Given financing limitations, CILSS did not conduct any activities in 2019 but has initiated discussions with partners (e.g. JICA and AfDB) on possible new Knowledge Management projects, which could support the further dissemination of this work. SAWAP Program-level M&E System. OSS produces two bi-annual “State of the SAWAP” reports, the latest one is from Dec 2018, the next and final one is expected to come out before the end of the project. The last report includes updates on the SAWAP indicators and the now finalized success stories from the SAWAP countries. OSS will also produce a four-year summary report of SAWAP also before the end of the project. BRICKS Project-Level M&E System. Indicators of the results framework have been updated as of May 2019. BRICKS support to the SAWAP Country Projects. CILSS and IUCN have halted their country engagement. OSS will continue providing bi-lateral support to Mali, Ghana and Mauritania post-project. Implementation of the 2018-19 BRICKS Communication Action Plan. Most planned activities have been carried out. The BRICKS video is being finalized and will soon be made available. Regional Studies. So far, BRICKS agencies have contributed to two regional studies, the Confronting Drought in Africa's Drylands study (CILSS), launched in 2015, and the Biodiversity and the Great Green Wall study (IUCN), presented at the UNCCD COP in Ordos, China, in Sep 2017. OSS is currently finalizing an Impact study of SLM interventions in the SAWAP region. Sub-grants. CILSS signed four sub-grant projects on communication innovations in Benin and Burkina Faso in April 2017. Implementation of these grants has concluded, however, due to lack of financing, CILSS was unable to supervise these grants, therefore results of these grant activities are not clear.
