The rehabilitation of several road sections has been completed including; (a) Bachuma Gate-Maji ya Chumvi (53km); Webuye- Kitale (60km); Kisumu-Kakamega (47km) resulting in significant reduction of travel time. Also completed are interchanges at Nakuru- Njoro tunoff; Nakuru-Nyahururu turn off; Mau Summit-Kericho turnoff; Chavakali interchange; Webuye interchange and Kitale interchange thereby improving on road safety. 2. All emergency activities for restoration of operations at JKIA, Nairobi, following the fire in 2013 have been completed including the Arrival facility at Terminal 1-A and international arrivals Terminal 1-E and are in use thereby restoring the operations at JKIA. 3. Through the support of the project, Kenya and JKIA have met aviation security and service level standards set by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Federal Transportation Administration and Transportation Security Administration of the USA, thus allowing direct flights originating from JKIA to and from the USA. Kenya Airways commenced direct flights to New York, USA on October 28, 2018. The East Africa School of Aviation (EASA) has been accredited by ICAO as one of the few centers of excellence in the world. 4. The project has supported the strengthening of the regulatory framework and performance of the transport sector. For instance: (i) a lead agency for road safety, NTSA has been established; (ii) a regulatory framework for the construction industry, NCA established; (iii) a regulatory framework for engineering profession and practice, EBK established; (iv) a regulatory framework for railways developed; (v) KCAA restructured through internal separation of the regulatory responsibilities from service provision functions; (vi) performance monitoring framework for the maritime sub-sector developed; and (vii) a Marine Training Institute (MTI) established in Kisumu. 5. The project closes on December 31, 2019.
