Has the Project Development Objective been changed since Board Approval of the Project? Yes No Component(s) Component Name Component Cost Component 1 1.15 Component 2 3.81 Component 3 0.54 Overall Ratings Public Disclosure Copy Previous Rating Current Rating Progress towards achievement of GEO Moderately Satisfactory Moderately Satisfactory Overall Implementation Progress (IP) Moderately Satisfactory Moderately Satisfactory Overall Risk Rating Substantial Substantial Implementation Status Overview This report covers the period from January 1 to July 26, 2012. Since the last ISR, the project carried out a Mid-term Review Mission to Botswana from April 10 to 20, 2012 to review implementation progress of the above referenced project. The field visits informed the mission that the project is facing challenges in getting actions on the ground, particularly in procuring and delivering the Human Wildlife mitigation materials to the farmers at the project sites. Despite these delays, the mission was pleased to hear from community members and farmers who have been training in the Human Wildlife conflict mitigation techniques and are eager to receive the materials and start applying the prevention methods. This Page 1 of 7 The World Bank Report No: ISR7719 strong interest is a marked qualitative change from the meetings held during project preparation where they were skeptical about applying these techniques. Good progress has been made in drafting the Green Paper on Human Wildlife Conflict. While the client has made some progress compared to previous missions, one of the key milestone -which is that farmers have received the mitigation materials and are using them- has not been reached. For this reason, project implementation is rated moderately satisfactory.
