The project has effectively offset many of the accrued delays and procurement pace has accelerated. The construction of the originally planned 250 pre-primary classrooms has been completed on schedule, the national school meals program has been implemented according to the original timeline and the construction of the community child development groups’ (CCDG) shelters is underway. The multi-age teaching training of pre-primary teachers is half-way through completion, the recruitment of caregivers to implement locally the CCDG has been completed and their training is being carried out. The ECE community awareness campaign materials have been improved significantly and training of local actors to deliver monthly awareness sessions to their communities is underway. Related, disbursement has picked up from 26 percent to 38 percent and imminent activities under the project will help accelerate disbursement pace in the very near future. The Government of Laos has considered a number of changes to the scope and coverage of the key ECE activities (pre-primary classroom construction and school meals program) that could maximize the contribution of the project to the accomplishment of Lao PDR's sustainable development goals (SDG), in particular SDG 2.2 (nutrition) and 4.2 (access to quality ECD programs). These changes may take effect upon successful project restructuring.
